A Grove of of Trees was planted in memory of Vidal Perez by Gaia Grove

Thanks so much to everyone who has supported or contributed to Gaia Grove during its fledgling development last year in 2008!
After the 12/11 benefit concert at Cafe Muse in Los Angeles, we received donations from both coasts and both dedicated and planted an actual grove of trees (in memory of a dear friend Vidal Perez) with Tree People!
We are waiting for the planting certificate to arrive in the mail, and are grateful to Tree People for sending a wonderful speaker for the event. We are also happy to know that during the winter holiday season, instead of cutting down any more evergreens, a new living grove of trees was planted in support of helping to heal the earth.
Thanks to all who have contributed to all Gaia Grove initiatives over the past year – especially during challenging economic times. In 2008, Gaia Grove hosted music & arts benefits in New York City, Los Angeles, and in Mexico raising funds and awareness for several environmental groups and political causes.
2008 Gaia Grove events:
March (NYC, The Bitter End – Conservation International)
May (Mexico, Cantu – Zonas Verdes de Punta Banda A.C.)
July (LA, Tangier – The Fruit Tree Planting Foundation)
October (LA, Cafe Muse – Obama for President / NO on PROP 8 )
December (LA, Cafe Muse – Tree People)
This was an experimental, foundation year, and we are grateful for everyone who joined the cause. In 2009, Gaia Grove is researching more funding options, non-profit collaborations, and will be making plans to expand into larger events, festivals, and productions.

Interesting links!
First of all, we had a lovely evening in Hollywood on Thurs Dec 11 raising awareness for Tree People. http://www.treepeople.org
Lacey Brown came as a rep from the local non-profit explaining about the work Tree People does in California. We collected some donations during the show – had more funds pledged from the East Coast, and would like to continue to encourage those seeking alternative gifting ideas for the holidays to consider volunteering for a local Tree People replanting effort day here in CA or give the gift of planting a tree or a grove: Gift a Tree or a Grove!
Second: A fascinating read about organic farming, genetic engineering, and global food supply considerations.
Seeds!
Third, learned about a really cool woman in the process – Vandana Shiva:

Finally, huge thanks to a soulful, beautiful performance by fellow artists Genevieve & Monique – including gorgeous solo piano by Gen & a unique electronic, performance-art rendition of Monique’s dance tracks.
Below is a link to a video of Amy Clarke performing “What Do You Do” at the 12/11 event at Cafe Muse.

“The Arts and Healing Network (www.artheals.org) is delighted to announce that vocal artist Rachel Bagby has just received the annual $10,000 AHN Award for excellence in the field of the art if healing. Since 1985, Rachel has been using song and especially choral events to give shape to communities intent on healing and sustainability. She launched the Sing Your Part initiative in 2006 – on the web at www.choralearth.com. ChoralEarth.com is a website that draws you in, literally; a conversation – a duet – a work of many voices excited about collaborative song and its relationship with healing and heavenly conditions on earth.”
